Good Jobs=Great Houston - America Wants to Work!
| Representative John Culberson, District 7, was expecting to only meet the 912 Tea Party group on the evening of August 9, 2011. He was expecting some push-back on his vote to raise the debt ceiling. Instead he was greeted with community and labor folks holding signs asking him where the jobs are that the ‘job creators’ (the rich who received the tax breaks) were supposed to have created. Other signs demanded that America’s infrastructure be rebuilt and that people have jobs instead of debate in Congress. The Tea Party folks and Culberson were both very unhappy with the demonstration. They did not like the message that America wants to work. Several tried to confront the demonstrators and were sometimes rude to them. |

Good Jobs=Great Houston
| Hundreds of Houstonians turned out for Speak Out for Good Jobs in Houston at the Fiest Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. The wanted their Congressional Representatives to know that they want good jobs and a better future for their families. Led by Sylvia Garcia, for Harris County Commissioner, they learned how the economy was not working for them. They also lined up to tell their stories of 50 unemployment in our minority communities, wage theft and the lack of jobs that pay living wages. Their frustration with elected leaders was obvious. They signed postcards and messages to their Representatives and they registered to vote. |
